Abuse of citation needed tag
[edit]Something needs to be done to curb the abuse of “citation needed”. The statement that in North America spandex is not prevalent in men’s clothing but prevalent in women’s does not need a citation. Anyone who lives in North America who has ever shopped in a department store can tell you this is true. This just demonstrates Wikipedia has veered completely off-course from its initial mandate.—al12si (talk) 23:14, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
Any idea if spandex contains any latex
[edit]Any idea if spandex contains latex 2601:987:8100:7994:745E:E3C4:4724:E4D6 (talk) 02:47, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Is this photo a sick joke? He may as well be naked. 2001:8003:695D:4F01:C6E:2BCC:D99:52FD (talk) 18:30, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- Could you please explain what the problem is? Thanks a bunch. -Roxy the grumpy dog. wooF 18:45, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- Zoom in on the groin of the cyclist and see for yourself the subject of the comment. A little photoshopping could reduce (or magnify :>) the concern. 75.72.161.233 (talk) 11:46, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- It is in reference to the second cyclist picture, the compression garment not the young cyclist in the first picture 75.72.161.233 (talk) 11:55, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

US patent 3023192 does not describe or claim spandex, a polyether-polyurea copolymer
[edit]Despite many sources citing it and DuPont's Joseph Shivers being the inventor, US3023192 does not claim a polyether-polyurea copolymer which spandex is a type of. US3023192 claims a polyether polyester block copolymer as exemplified by DuPont's' HYTREL.
The patent does not claim or even mention diisocyanate and/or diamine monomers which are needed to comprise spandex per this Wikipedia article.
If you can comprehend basic polymer chemistry and read US3023192, you must conclude that this is not the correct patent for spandex.
What is the correct patent? perhaps US2929800A Polytetramethylene ether polyurethane polymer Anoldnewb (talk) 16:57, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. I removed that section. That patent cites a Rhone-Polenc patent that seems relevant. The present article is effusive about Shivers. Occasionally, the English Wikipedia marginalizes contributions from non-English-speaking sources.--Smokefoot (talk) 22:55, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Removed refs to [http://www.madehow.com/Volume-4/Spandex.html "How spandex is made"] from How Products Are Made. See MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist/archives/March 2019#Advameg sites (city-data.com, filmreference.com, etc.).--Smokefoot (talk) 11:45, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
Lycra. Name.
[edit]What is the origin of the name Lycra; who chose it?
This site [1] says the name was generated by computer.
I presume that means some guy (in 1958) punched in a list of (maybe 200) word elements and picked one he liked from a matched up list.
I'm guessing that “acryl” (from acrylic) was highly influential. MBG02 (talk) 08:24, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Care
[edit]There is no information in this article about how to care for this product eg what temperatures the fibres can safely tolerate during laundry. 82.71.24.65 (talk) 10:43, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
