Welcome to my user page. Feel free to improve this page. I enjoy contributing to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, which I first starting doing on 15 May 2004. I registered on 4 July 2004. Some pre-registration edits: 68.64.7.68

I have at least three ancestors with Wikipedia articles: William Bradford (governor), Stephen Hopkins (merchant), and Constance Hopkins. (probably more)

Opinions

[edit]
  • 2011-09-04 Andrew G. West performed unethical research.
  • 2011-02-09 When looking at a diff of changes to several separate paragraphs, there should be an option to revert just the change to one paragraph.
  • 2010-10-02 There needs to be a search just for each article's history. This would allow you to find when certain content was added or went missing.
  • Most TV episode lists should include fair use screenshots.
  • Ads on Wikipedia: I don't want ads on Wikipedia unless donations can't cover costs, but I'm curious as to how much money can be generated from 24 hours of Google text ads placed under the interlanguage links.

Donations

[edit]

Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects are valuable resources, but it takes more than volunteers to keep it running. See where the money goes. But the quick staffing numbers increase makes me nervous. I have stopped donating. 36.7 million dollars to be granted to other orgs in FY 21-22...

Qualifications / areas of expertise

[edit]

I acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Mississippi State University in 1998 and have been in the United States Air Force since 2001.

I'm also generally interested in history, geography, etc.

Orion in The Book of Fixed Stars
The Book of Fixed Stars (Arabic: كتاب صور الكواكب kitāb suwar al-kawākib, literally The Book of the Shapes of Stars) is an astronomical text written by Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi (Azophi) around 964. Following the Graeco-Arabic translation movement in the 9th century AD, the book was written in Arabic, the common language for scholars across the vast Islamic territories, although the author himself was Persian. It was an attempt to create a synthesis of the comprehensive star catalogue in Ptolemy's Almagest (books VII and VIII) with the indigenous Arabic astronomical traditions on the constellations (notably the Arabic constellation system of the Anwā'). The original manuscript no longer survives as an autograph, however, the Book of Stars has survived in later-made copies. This image from the book shows the constellation of Orion, in mirror image as if on a celestial globe, and is from a copy in the Bodleian Library dated to the 12th century AD.Ilustration credit: Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi
Dates in Wikipedia articles

Two date formats are commonly used in Wikipedia articles: December 2, 2009 and 2 December 2009. These are referred to as alphanumeric dates. The first is used in articles with a connection to the United States, and the second in articles relating to most Commonwealth countries (although no preference is expressed for Canada). In articles with no particular national affiliation, to prevent needless edit warring, the established date format should not be changed. However any given article should use just one of the two formats consistently. Dates that are all numeric are highly discouraged to avoid confusion, however if used must be in the YYYY-MM-DD format and never in YYYY-DD-MM format.
